For almost 200 years, its true nature remained a secret. In the 1950s, during the relocation of the statue, a piece of plaster chipped off, revealing the solid gold underneath. This discovery stunned the world and transformed the statue into one of Thailand’s most celebrated icons.

Best Time to Visit

The Golden Buddha is open year-round, but for a more enjoyable experience, consider visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the temple is less crowded. The cooler season from November to February offers more comfortable temperatures for exploring both the temple and Bangkok’s lively Chinatown.
