Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Barranquilla and hop on a minibus to head to the south of the Atlántico, toward Galapa. After a 30-minute journey, we'll reach this Colombian municipality that is strongly tied to the Barranquilla Carnival. Let's discover why!

First, we'll access the Museo MUCA and go on a 40-minute guided tour to start discovering the history of the Barranquilla Carnival, along with this ancient tradition's most iconic characters and symbols. Did you know this festivity is considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage?

Afterward, we'll walk around Galapa and pass the Plaza Principal and the Casa de la Cultura, two places closely connected to many artistic expressions that are seen in the town.

To learn about the craftsmen of Galapa's work up close, we'll visit a local workshop where expert craftsmen carve hundreds of carnival figures. Each piece is unique, and all of them are inspired by the most characteristic characters from the Barranquilla Carnival.

As you stroll around the workshop, you'll discover the history behind the motifs that decorate the masks of Colombia's most famous carnival. An expert craftsman will explain the process of cutting the woodcarving the piece, and then decorating it. Every detail counts!

To wrap up this experience on a high note, you'll have the chance to decorate your own wooden piece. You can choose the colors and patterns to put your stamp on this figure inspired by the Barranquilla Carnival. You'll be artisans for a day

After enjoying a typical lunch in the area, we'll return to the minibus and set off to Barranquilla, where we'll arrive 6 hours after the tour begins.
