We'll meet in the exterior of Qiaowan Station to begin this free tour of traditional Beijing. Ready to explore the most authentic parts of the Chinese capital?
Our first stop will be at Caochang Hutong Cluster, one of the best-preserved hutong complexes in the city. Among stone carvings and old inscriptions, we'll learn about daily life in these narrow alleys since the 13th century.
We'll continue walking to Leiyinchan Temple, a hidden corner among the houses of a residential neighbourhood. During the second half of the 20th century, it became communal housing, and today it has been transformed into a silent witness to the changes that have marked life in the hutongs. You'll love discovering how this place reflects the evolution of Beijing over the centuries!
Afterwards, we'll visit old guild halls, which served as meeting points for merchants and artisans. Their walls still echo with stories of pacts, celebrations and shared secrets. We'll also learn how Peking opera, with its colourful costumes and symbolic gestures, has managed to keep the essence of traditional theatre alive to this day.
We'll continue our walking tour at Sanlihe Park, a pleasant path along the river that runs through the city. Among trees and old houses, we'll enjoy a very special corner that invites calm. A perfect place to unwind!
Lastly, we'll arrive at Xianyukou, one of the liveliest streets for eating in Beijing. Formerly a bustling market, today it continues to offer the chance to sample the most authentic flavours of local cuisine.
Finally, we'll walk a bit further on and get to Qianmen Street, where we'll arrive after 2 hours in total.
