During the visit, we'll explore the city's main squares. These spaces are like open-air museums, showcasing centuries of Newar culture and art—you’ll be fascinated!
In Taumadhi Square, we'll admire the imposing Nyatapola Temple, a five-story structure that towers over the city and is an unmistakable symbol of Bhaktapur. Opposite it stands the Bhairavnath Temple, dedicated to Bhairab, a protective deity associated with strength and energy. You'll be amazed by the architectural dialogue between these two temples!
In Pottery Square, you'll see potters' wheels and clay pieces drying in the sun. It's the perfect place to understand a craft that has shaped bowls, pots, and lamps for centuries. As we walk through the cobbled streets, we'll stop at the craft stalls, where Bhaktapur locals keep their traditions alive.
Approaching Dattatreya Square, dominated by the Dattatreya Temple, we'll admire the ancient courtyard houses with exquisite wood carvings. Here you'll find the famous Peacock Window, one of the most admired pieces of Newar art.
We'll also visit Durbar Square, the heart of the ancient Newar kingdom. Here, we'll see the Palace of 55 Windows and the famous Golden Gate (Lu Dhowka), the monumental entrance to the palace complex.
