Budapest Synagogue Tickets
Great Budapest Synagogue
Also known as the Great Synagogue on Dohány Street, this temple isn’t only the largest synagogue in Europe, but also the second largest in the world. It was inaugurated in 1859, during the peak of the Jewish community in Hungary.
It’s a masterpiece of Moorish-Byzantine style, designed by the Viennese architect Ludwig Förster. The exterior, with its bulbous domes and red and yellow brick stripes, is as impressive as its richly decorated interior, which has a capacity for almost 3000 people.
With your tickets to the Budapest Synagogue, you’ll visit this important symbol of the city at your own pace. The Budapest Synagogue is located in the center of the current Jewish Quarter, which was used as the Budapest Ghetto during World War II and the Holocaust.
The Synagogue complex, including the Heroes’ Temple, the cemetery, and the Tree of Life Memorial, serves as a solemn monument to the victims. It’s the only Jewish cemetery in the world located within the grounds of a synagogue, as the bodies of those who died in the ghetto were buried there.
When visiting the Dohány Synagogue, you won’t only admire its spectacular architecture, but you’ll also take a profound journey through the history of Budapest’s Jewish community, understanding its suffering and its incredible resilience.
Audio Guide to Visit Budapest
As if that weren’t enough, this ticket also includes an English audio guide so you can explore Budapest and admire its most iconic landmarks. Following its explanations, you’ll walk to St. Stephen’s Basilica, see the Hungarian State Opera House, the House of Terror, Heroes’ Square, and the Hungarian Parliament Building.
The route ends at the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Danube River and the city.
