Crab Fishing in the Cartagena Mangroves
Crab Fishing in the Cartagena Mangroves
At the scheduled time, we'll meet either at your hotel or on 101st Street in the town of La Boquilla. We'll then set off toward the coast, where we'll hop in a canoe and head over to the mangroves.
Did you know that this area is known for its traditional fishing techniques? We'll learn how to use typical fishing tools, such as nets, pots, and ropes. The locals will show us how to use special instruments such as the trammel net.
We'll sail through the mangroves as we tell you about the peculiarities of this unique ecosystem. Then we'll arrive at the Ciénega de la Virgen, a lagoon full of wildlife, and there we'll be able to fish for crabs with the help of a net.
In addition to crabs, you'll be able to see other native species such as sea bass, shad, or mojarra, as well as sea snails, shrimp, and lobsters. Before continuing, if you wish, we'll take a break on a small island in the area. Would you like to meet a Colombian raccoon? Or visit a fish farm?
Once the catch of the day is done, we'll return to the mainland for a lunch of crabs, fish, rice, and fried plantain. Of course, we'll also have a drink, cheers!
We'll finish the crab fishing activity in the mangroves of Cartagena four to five hours later.
