Castries Markets + St. Lucia Distillery Tour
Activity Details
After picking you up from your hotel or the Castries cruise port, we'll start this tour that will take us through the most authentic shops and markets in Saint Lucia. At each stall, we'll see tropical splendor in all its glory!
We'll visit markets such as the Central, Arcade, Anchorage, and Derek Walcott. There, we'll lose ourselves among the island's most typical gastronomic products, such as the peculiar banana ketchup, banana barbecue sauce and pepper sauce, a pleasant surprise to the palate with a touch of spice, characteristic of this Caribbean region.
Amid laughter and bargaining, you can choose from coconut sweets, aromatic spices, and colorful Santaluce crafts, allowing you to take home the Creole essence that pulsates through the streets of Castries.
Next, we'll take a 20-minute drive through the Roseau Valley to St. Lucia Distillers, where the island's finest rum has been produced since 1972. Are you ready to see for yourselves?
During the 1-hour tour, we'll visit the warehouses, and see the gleaming copper stills and the aging room. We'll discover how cane honey is transformed into aguardiente and, after years of aging, gives rise to masterful blends.
The experience will culminate with a rum tasting, from the traditional Bounty Rum, the spirit of St. Lucia, to creamy liqueurs. Your palate will surrender to nuances and notes of vanilla, cocoa, and candied fruits. A true delicacy!
Finally, we'll return to the hotel or cruise port, where we'll say goodbye 3.5 hours after pickup.
