Cajas National Park Tour

Meet your guide at 8:45 am in Parque Calderón, a park in the centre of Cuenca. Here, you'll climb aboard a double-decker bus for the journey over to the El Cajas National Park, located just 50 minutes away.

During the drive, you'll make a stop at the Loma de las Tres Cruces, or the "Three Crosses Hill"... do you know how it got this name? The area, located at more than 13,000 feet (4000 metres) above sea level, marks the continental divide between the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. From its lofty vantage point, you'll enjoy spectacular views over the glacier lakes dotted throughout the park - it's home to more than 200 of them!

Continuing onwards, you'll make a brief stop to visit Toreadore Lake, before delving into the so-called Paper Tree Forest. From the top deck of the bus, you'll almost be able to touch the ancient quinua trees that can reach up to 50 feet (15 metres) in height!

Explore the Cajas National Park on foot, embarking on an easy hiking trail which will last around two hours. As you stroll through the nature reserve, you'll feel the immense sense of peace from being surrounded by so much beautiful nature. At the end of the trek, you'll have time to eat lunch (food not included).

Finally, you'll make one last stop at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of El Cajas, a shrine located in the heart of nature, before making the return journey to the Parque Calderón in Cuenca, arriving back at 3 pm.
