It's important to stay up to date about the geopolitical and social situation, and to follow official travel recommendations and local guidelines. As of January 2025, the Northern and Middle Sinai Peninsula, the Western Desert, and the Egyptian border areas shuold be avoided.
How many days you decide to stay in Egypt depends on where you plan to visit. In 5-7 days, you can easily make your way to the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum and enjoy a cruise on the Nile between Luxor and Aswan. If you want to explore the desert, visit the Red Sea beaches and Alexandria, we recommend giving yourself 11-15 days.
The best time to visit Egypt is between October and April, when temperatures are generally more comfortable. We do not recommend visiting during the summer season, when temperatures can reach extreme highs, especially in the southern part of the country.
To visit Egypt, US citizens must have a passport with at least 6 months of validity, as well a touirst visa. You can apply for a tourist visa through Egypt's e-Visa system. Alternatively, you can apply for a visa upon arrival at the airport. For the most up to date information on documentation requirements consult your local embassy.
The official language of Egypt is Arabic, though English is widely spoken, especially in major cities and tourist attractions.
