The Florence Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore or simply, the Duomo, is a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With contributions from greats such as Brunelleschi, Donatello and Zuccaro, this is a must-see on any visit to Florence!

Commissioned by the Medici family, the Florence Cathedral was intended to be a symbol of the power and wealth of Tuscany. 

Incredibly, the cathedral took over 140 years to fully complete. The result was the world's largest church, able to accommodate 30,000 worshippers as well as the world's largest dome (designed by Filippo Brunelleschi), which remains the largest brick dome ever constructed.
