Hiking in Madeira
Tour Options
When making your reservation, you'll have the choice of two different hiking routes in Madeira, both including pick up from Funchal:
Sao Jorge Forest Trail
This 11 kilometre (6.8 mile) hike will take you to explore the hidden corners of Madeira. You'll enter the immense subtropical forest of Sao Gorge, a rich Laurissilva forest that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll be enchanted by the varied plants and trees native to the island, from herbs and shrubs to examples of ancient medicinal plants.
Along the hiking route you'll find a number of charming waterfalls and breathtaking viewpoints offering incredible views of the north coast of the island. Walking through Madeira's natural landscapes is an experience you won't forget!
Pico do Arieiro Trail
You'll have to embrace your adventurous side on this intense 13 kilometre (8 mile) route, which will take you across the mountain ranges of central Madeira. As you climb the dizzying peaks, you'll be immersed in the lush green vegetation typical of the region.
Having reached the highest parts of the Arieiro and Ruivo peaks, you'll enjoy unparalleled views of the Paul da Sarra plateau, the Curral das Faials or Valley of the Nuns, and the picturesque village of Santana. Get your camera ready!
