Visit the Masaya Volcano, admire the pottery of San Juan de Oriente, and swim in the Apoyo Lagoon for an incredible day of adventure on a day trip from Granada!

Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Granada and, after a 30-minute drive, we'll enter Masaya Volcano National Park.

We'll begin a hiking route of approximately 45 minutes to the Comalito cone, popularly called baby volcano, where a 360-degree view of the surroundings awaits us. Once at the top, we'll see the Masaya Lagoon and the sulfurous gases that emerge from the nearby Santiaguito crater. Did you know that the indigenous peoples used to call it La Boca del Infierno (Hell's Mouth)?

From here, we'll start our descent and pass by the Masaya Volcano Museum. There, for about 45 minutes, we'll learn about past eruptions, like the disastrous eruption of 1772, which almost wiped out the nearby town of the same name.

Afterward, we'll stop at the local market, where we'll see leather goods, wood carvings, embroidery, paintings, traditional guayaberos and typical footwear. The perfect place to pick up a meaningful souvenir of our experience.

Next, we'll continue to Catarina, the so-called white village of the Meseta de los Pueblos Route. There, for half an hour, we'll explore its gardens while we head towards its popular viewpoint. In a single image, we'll contemplate the Mombacho volcano, Lake Nicaragua and the city of Granada on the horizon.

Shall we continue? In just a few minutes we'll be in San Juan de Oriente, the cradle of Nicaraguan pottery. In this town with Chorotega roots, we'll visit a pottery workshop and, for about 40 minutes, we'll see the entire process, from kneading to firing.

Lastly, we'll spend about 2 hours at Laguna Beach, on the shores of the Apoyo Lagoon, a crater that's over 20,000 years old. There, surrounded by a dry forest, you can take a dip, rent a kayak and have lunch at your own pace.

Finally, we'll return to your hotel, bringing our day to an end, 8 hours later.
