Tequila Day Trip + Visit to José Cuervo’s La Rojeña Distillery

  • 162 reviews | 2,473 travellers
We went on a tour to the town of Tequila and visited a Riveño agave field. They explained everything from the history of tequila to the harvesting process. Ramón was our guide, very attentive, explaining the history of the land and the origins of tequila along the way. He took us to the Tequila Selecto distillery, explained the entire tequila production process, and answered any questions we had. He also took us to La Rojeña and recommended some places to eat afterward. The tour is highly recommended.

Day Trip Details

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Guadalajara and head to Tequila.  On the way, we'll stop at the agave fields in Amatitán, where we’ll take part in a demonstration of the traditional agave harvest. Do you know what that involves? We’ll find out!

We’ll set off again and, after an hour’s drive, we’ll reach the birthplace of Mexico’s most famous drink. As soon as we arrive, we’ll set out to explore the cobbled streets of Tequila, a village surrounded by hills and agave fields. We’ll discover the history of the village and the famous spirit distilled from blue agave. Did you know that the region surrounding Tequila was designated a World Heritage Site in 2006 for the beauty of its agave landscapes?

After the guided tour, you’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch at your leisure in one of Tequila’s restaurants. You can sample the local cuisine and refuel whilst soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful colonial town.

The trip will continue with a visit to a distillery, specifically José Cuervo’s La Rojeña. We’ll learn about the history of tequila and discover the stages of its production, from harvesting the agaves to ageing in oak barrels. At the end of the tour, we’ll have a tequila tasting so you can savour authentic Mexican tequila.

We’ll be back in Guadalajara between 5 pm and 6 pm.
