Cacique Guatapé Caves Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the main park of Guatapé, in front of the church. From this point, we'll board a bus for a 20-minute drive to the beginning of the trail that will lead us to the caves of Cacique Guatapé.
Once there, we'll walk for half an hour along a path surrounded by native forests, which stands out for its diversity of flora and fauna. It's a perfect setting to enjoy nature before entering the underground world of the caves.
When you reach the entrance to the cave, you'll begin to understand the immensity of this place. Before entering, you'll have to choose whether you want to walk down or abseil down. Once inside the cave, the real tour will begin, which will last approximately 1.5 hours.
During the guided tour, you'll feel like you're travelling back in time. Large rocks with strange shapes, sculpted by the humidity of the place, will surround us while we tell you the stories and events that took place in this site, which holds hundreds of mysteries.
Throughout the tour, we'll explore the chambers or rooms that make up the cavern, each with an important function in the life of the ancient inhabitants: the first, a space with a capacity for more than 2,000 people, was a vital refuge for indigenous groups, protecting them, among other things, from the inclemency of the weather. For them, this site was considered sacred, where rituals were performed.
We'll then continue to the second bedroom, where it's said that the indigenous people used to sleep on small terraces. The third chamber is a more private room, with a stone door. When the enemy approached, the inhabitants took refuge here.
The fourth chamber is shrouded in mystery: two gigantic stone walls lean against each other, creating a triangle-shaped room. When you shine a torch on the walls, you'll see that the minerals reflect hundreds of golden sparkles, as if they contained gold. As you leave the cavern, you'll feel a renewed energy.
Finally, we'll make our way back to the starting point, where we'll say goodbye after a total of 5 hours.
Admission to the Cave
During the booking process, you must indicate whether you'd prefer to enter the cave on foot or by abseiling. If you choose the latter option, we'll provide you with the necessary equipment, and you'll make a 40 m (131 ft) descent to the depths of the cavern, where you'll rejoin your guide and the rest of the group.
