Sviyazhsk Island Private Day Trip

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and head to the confluence of the Volga and Sviyaga rivers. From here, we'll board a boat that'll take us to Sviyazhsk Island, which has just over 200 inhabitants and is dotted with churches and historic buildings. During the trip, you'll see incredible views of Kazan from the Volga River. Don't forget your camera!

Once we're back on dry land, we'll begin to explore this small island and discuss its history. Sviyazhsk was founded in 1551 as a fortress and, after just one year, became an important military base for the Russian army. You'll feel like you've travelled back in time as we stroll through its picturesque streets!

During our day trip, we'll visit the Ivanovsky Convent, the Temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh, and the Church of the Holy Trinity. In addition, we'll enter the Dormition Monastery to visit its cathedral, which is famous for its ancient frescoes. As we wander inside the cathedral, you'll be able to see its meticulously designed decorations and the beauty of the various chapels it houses.

We'll also discuss how Sviyazhsk Island played a key role in the defence of cities such as Novgorod, Pskov and Moscow, and its importance in the 1917 Revolution.

After touring this historic island, it'll be time to return to the boat and head back to Kazan. We should arrive at your hotel at 3:30 pm.
