Fushimi Walking Tour + Sake Tasting & Canal Boat Ride
Tour Details
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at Keihan Chushojima Station, specifically at the North Exit, at the designated time. Once we're all gathered, we'll start our guided walking tour of Fushimi, Kyoto's historic sake-brewing district and Japan's second-largest area in sake production. Let's go!
First, we'll discover Choken-ji Temple, a quiet, lesser-known local temple that offers a moment of serenity before our next stop. After visiting the temple, we'll hop on board a traditional Jikkoku-bune boat for a peaceful cruise along Fushimi's historic canals, which were crucial for transporting sake barrels in the past. You'll love admiring the willow trees, stone bridges, and charming old warehouses that surround the canals.
After our boat ride, we'll learn about Kyoto's sake heritage by visiting the nearby Gekkeikan Ōkura Sake Brewery. Did you know that the particular type of sake brewed in Fushimi is thanks to the soft characteristics of the district's water? In this brewery, you'll dive into the centuries-old brewing techniques and see traditional tools. The best part is that you'll have the chance to taste a variety of premium sake crafted with pure Fushimi spring water!
Then, we'll head to Fushimi Yume Hyakushu, a lovely café set in a beautifully restored Meiji-era building. Here, you'll enjoy a locally roasted coffee in a nostalgic atmosphere, soaking in the old Kyoto charm. Finally, we'll end our tour here after 2.5 hours.
