Transport to San José
How to Get to San José from La Fortuna
At the stated time, the minibus will depart from the main park in La Fortuna to begin a journey of between 3.5 and 4 hours to San José. During the trip, you’ll enjoy the characteristic landscapes of Costa Rica’s rural heartland.
We’ll drive past hills, coffee plantations, pineapple fields, and farms. Along the route, the last rays of sunlight will illuminate the valleys surrounding La Fortuna, a region famous for the impressive Arenal Volcano and its natural hot springs.
As we approach the Central Valley, the lights of the towns and the city will multiply, announcing our arrival in the Costa Rican capital. Finally, we’ll say goodbye after dropping you off at your hotel in San José, Heredia, or Alajuela.
What to Do in San José
Although we’ll arrive in San José at night, the next day you’ll be able to discover a vibrant city that combines culture and modernity in every corner. After enjoying a good Costa Rican coffee and a gallo pinto breakfast, we recommend strolling along the Central Avenue boulevard, full of shops, street performers, and historic buildings.
Very close to this main avenue, you’ll find the National Theatre, a 19th-century building whose elegant interior will surprise you. If you’re a history lover, you also shouldn’t miss the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum or the National Museum of Costa Rica.
One of the most authentic things to do in San José is to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the Central Market, a maze of corridors filled with the aroma of tropical fruit. And if you’d like to disconnect from the city, you can enjoy a walk through La Sabana Metropolitan Park, the green lung of the Costa Rican capital. Whatever you decide to do in San José, you’ll soak up its pura vida spirit.
