Manaus & Teatro Amazonas Guided Tour
Tour Details
History, architecture, and culture come together on this walking tour of Manaus! We'll start at Largo de São Sebastião, the center of cultural life in the capital of the Brazilian Amazon. Let's go!
First, after contemplating the church of São Sebastião, we'll enter the Teatro Amazonas, a symbol of the Belle Époque that was built in the late 19th century.
Did you know that it's one of the largest theaters dedicated to opera in Brazil? In fact, it hosts the Amazonas Opera Festival. We'll visit the interior of the building while we tell you the details of its construction. We'll admire the Italian Carrara marble on the stairs and columns.
After the visit, we'll set off for the port of Manaus, the largest river port in the world. Along the walk, we'll see how the city's daily life is still linked to the Negro River, with boats loaded with fruits, fish and regional products.
A few steps away, we'll find the Adolpho Lisboa municipal market, inspired by the designs of Gustave Eiffel. This commercial space, which dates back to 1883, will welcome us with its lively atmosphere among typical Amazonian products.
We'll explore the aisles filled with handicrafts and exotic foods such as cupuaçu and guaraná. We'll also meet local merchants, who will share with us the culinary traditions of Manaus.
Finally, we'll go up to the Lúcia Almeida lookout point. As soon as we arrive, we'll see how the city and the Amazon rainforest seem to merge on the horizon. It will be the perfect moment to take pictures and reflect on the rich Manaus culture.
Then, we'll conclude this 3.5 to 4 hour tour at this last point, see you next time!
