Day of the Dead Tour
Tour Details
Ready to invite the ancestors to share in this special evening? After meeting in front of the Church of San Matías Jalatlaco, we'll set off on our Day of the Dead tour toward the Oaxaca Market.
We'll walk through the lively streets of central Oaxaca as we begin to learn the stories behind this celebration in the city. We'll see facades adorned with colorful flowers for Día de Muertos. Make sure your cameras are fully charged... you'll be using them from the very first minute!
We'll continue to the famous Plaza Santo Domingo, where we'll take in the Temple of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, an ancient convent with one of the most colorful Día de Muertos decorations in the city.
From there, we'll make our way to the Panteón General, where we'll get a firsthand feel for the very heart of the celebration. Among the tombs, music, and copal incense, we'll talk about the customs of Día de Muertos, its meaning, and the close relationship Mexicans hold with death.
We'll then witness the Jalatlaco neighborhood community keeping vigil alongside their deceased family members through the night. Flowers, incense, and powerful symbolism will take center stage on this very special evening, as we walk through the alleyways brought to life by dozens of elaborate altars at the entrances to homes.
To round off the activity in style, we'll head to an exclusive local venue for a delicious dinner of traditional Día de Muertos dishes. Enjoy!
We'll say our goodbyes after 4 hours on the tour.
