Oviedo Free Tour

  • 3 reviews | 16 travellers
Alicia was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who took us through an interesting journey of the history of Oviedo and the Asturias. This tour was more comprehensive than normal guided tours as it covered a whole lot of history and places. Alicia’s friendly demeanour, open-minded response to questions and professionalism are praiseworthy!

Oviedo Free Tour

We'll meet at Plaza Alfonso II El Casto at the indicated time, in the centre of the square. From here, we'll spot the first monument of our tour: the Monument to Alfonso II El Casto. Alfonso II El Casto was the king of Asturias and was the first pilgrim to embark on the famous Camino de Santiago.

Next, we'll come to the Arco San Tirso, we'll find out why this pre-Romanesque window of the Asturian Monarchy is the tourist emblem of Asturias. Then we'll continue our tour to the San Salvador Cathedral which is the very first stop on the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Here, we'll also be able to admire the beautiful chapel of the Balesquida.

Then we'll see the Monastery of San Pelayo - a women's cloistered monastery with over 1000 years of history. From here we'll go and see the statue of Friar Benito Jerónimo Feijóo y Montenegro, a Spanish monk and scholar who has become known as the Father of the Spanish Enlightenment!

Our next stop will be San Isidoro Square, your guide will tell you all about the customs, folklore, modern traditions and famous figures of this fascinating town. Then we'll come to the University of Oveido, where we'll learn some interesting historical facts!

The last stop on our tour will be Plaza de La Escandalera. You'll find out why it's nicknamed the square of 100 names...

Finally, we'll end the tour at Parque de San Francisco.
