Nim Li Punit Day Trip
Nim Li Punit Day Trip
Once we've picked you up from your hotel or the port of Placencia, we'll drive inland towards the Nim Li Punit archaeological site, one of the main Mayan-era settlements in Belize.
As we stroll around the ruins of this ancient pre-Hispanic city, we'll discuss some interesting facts, such as why it's also called "Big Hat". The city was at its peak between the 5th and 8th centuries when several step pyramids up to 40 feet (12 metres) high were built. We'll see how parts of these pyramids are still standing centuries later.
During the tour, we'll also visit the Nim Li Punit Museum, which houses the archaeological site's principal artefact: a stela sculpted in stone representing an ancient chieftain of the city. The inscription on this sculpture, one of the most remarkable in Mesoamerica, includes several clues and mysteries that we'll try to decipher during the visit.
We'll then drive to the village of Big Falls, where we'll meet with the local community to hear about their customs and traditions. In addition, we'll share a traditional lunch with them, which will include several delicious local dishes.
After 6 hours of history and exploration, we'll take you back to Placencia.
