Puerto Plata Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
We’ll meet near the cruise port. From there, we’ll begin this free walking tour of Puerto Plata, a walk that will gradually introduce you to the rhythm of the city.
First, we’ll arrive at Umbrella Street, an urban space transformed through art, where suspended umbrellas seem to float like a colorful sky.
Next, we’ll stroll along the charming Doña Blanca Passage, a walkway of pastel tones and restored colonial architecture. Who was Doña Blanca, and why has this corner become such a symbol of the city’s identity? As we explore it, we’ll talk about 19th-century Puerto Plata, elegant and cosmopolitan.
The tour will then take us to Central Independence Park, the social heart of the city, surrounded by historic buildings and full of everyday life. Here, you’ll have the chance to try mamajuana and wine at your own expense, discovering the traditions and stories behind these drinks.
We’ll continue toward the Amber Museum, where we’ll talk about this unique gemstone from the outside, one that has placed the Dominican Republic on the map. Finally, we’ll walk along the Malecón to the imposing San Felipe Fortress, a 16th-century defensive stronghold. How many pirate attacks did its walls withstand along the Atlantic coast? We'll find out!
At the end, we’ll return to the starting point, where we’ll say our goodbyes after 1.5 hours.
