Palo María Waterfall Hike
Activity Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll meet at number 363 Constitución Street, where we’ll take a public bus heading south. During the 15-minute ride, you’ll see the city gradually fade away as the dense tropical jungle of inland Puerto Vallarta takes over the landscape.
Once we get off the bus, the sound of the Palo María River will guide us. We’ll begin a hiking route through roots, rocks, and the giant leaves typical of the region. We’ll walk beneath a lush green canopy, where treetops filter sunlight into shimmering beams. Along the way, you’ll spot bromeliads, tree ferns, and wild orchids carpeting the scenery.
If we’re lucky, we may see iguanas sunbathing on the rocks and blue morpho butterflies fluttering through the bushes. We’ll cross the river several times, feeling the cool water flowing around our ankles.
After about 1 hour of hiking, the murmur of Palo María Waterfall will signal that we’re getting close. In front of us, a curtain of water will cascade down moss-covered rock walls, forming a natural pool below.
This will be the perfect moment to take a deep breath, enjoy some fresh fruit, and let the jungle surround us in its humid embrace. If weather conditions allow, you’ll be able to take a refreshing swim.
We’ll then continue the route uphill to a hidden viewpoint in the area. From there, we’ll enjoy sweeping views of Banderas Bay stretching out on the horizon. The perfect farewell postcard!
Finally, we’ll head back to the original meeting point in Puerto Vallarta, where the activity will end after approximately 4 hours.
