Tour Details

At the indicated time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel to begin this tour of Recife and the Ricardo Brennand Institute. Over the course of 7 hours, we’ll dive into the history of the “Brazilian Venice,” a city founded in the 16th century and crossed by rivers and bridges.

We’ll start by exploring the contrast between the modern areas and the historic center. We’ll pass by Cais José Estelita, overlooking the Pina basin, and stop in front of the historic Five Points Fort, a military construction dating back to 1630.

Our next stop will be Republic Square, where we’ll admire the grandeur of the Palace of Justice, the Palace of the Fields of the Princesses, and the Santa Isabel Theater. Nearby, we’ll also discover the Golden Chapel, one of the finest examples of Baroque-Rococo art in Brazil.

We’ll then continue to the House of Culture, a regional handicrafts center located in a former prison building on the banks of the Capibaribe River. Close by, we’ll see Recife Central Station, home to the country’s first railway museum, as well as the picturesque Aurora Street and the Old Bridge.

After this part of the tour, we’ll enjoy a panoramic drive through the charming neighborhoods of Casa Forte and Poço da Panela before reaching the highlight of the visit: the Ricardo Brennand Institute. Popularly known as the Brennand Castle, this complex has been recognized as one of the best museums in South America.

Here we’ll explore its replica medieval castle and extensive gardens. Inside, we’ll see an impressive collection featuring works by painters such as Frans Post, Jean-Baptiste Debret, and Eliseu Visconti. The museum also houses French tapestries, English furniture, and one of the world’s largest collections of bladed weapons and medieval armor.

Finally, after 7 hours of touring, we’ll take you back to your hotel in Recife.
