At the scheduled time, we’ll meet at Praça Paris to begin this free off-roading vehicle tour of Santa Teresa and the Dona Marta viewpoint. Are you ready to discover the most bohemian and authentic side of Rio de Janeiro aboard an off-roading vehicle? Let’s get started!
We’ll hop into the vehicle and head toward Santa Teresa, a historic neighborhood founded in the 18th century that breathes art on every corner. As we travel along its cobblestone streets, we’ll feel the nostalgic atmosphere created by its 19th-century mansions and its famous yellow tram.
Our first stop will be at Largo dos Guimarães, the heart of Santa Teresa, where you’ll have free time to soak up the bohemian spirit of its bars and artists’ studios.
We’ll continue the off-roading vehicle adventure by heading up toward the Mirante das Favelas. Did you know the term “favela” comes from a tree native to Brazil? Here, we’ll learn about the origin of these settlements and the history of the fighters from the War of Canudos. After a brief stop to better understand the social reality of Rio’s hillsides, we’ll keep climbing until reaching an altitude of 400 m (1,312 ft).
The grand finale will be the Dona Marta viewpoint, located within Tijuca National Park. From here, we’ll enjoy one of the most impressive panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro. With Christ the Redeemer and the Sugarloaf Mountain in front of us, we’ll understand why this spot is a favorite for watching the sunrise. Photo time!
Finally, after 2.5 hours of touring, we’ll return to the starting point to conclude the activity.
