The adventure begins at the Bondinho base station, where you’ll board a modern, fully glass-enclosed cabin that offers 360-degree views of the city. The name Sugarloaf Bondinho dates back to 1912, when the cable car was inaugurated. Its cabins resembled the streetcars, known as bondes, that ran through Rio’s streets at the time. As it was a smaller, suspended version, locals affectionately named it the “Bondinho”.
Your cable car journey will be divided into two ascent stages. The first stop is Morro da Urca, located at 220 meters (722 ft) above sea level, where you’ll already enjoy amazing views. The final stretch will take you up to the main summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, at 396 meters (1,299 ft) above sea level, offering a truly unmatched panoramic view.
As the Bondinho ascends, you’ll have the chance to admire Copacabana Beach, Botafogo Bay, and the vast expanse of Guanabara Bay. Each section of the cable car ride lasts approximately 3 minutes.
Once at the top, you’ll be able to explore the complex at your own pace. We recommend walking around its viewpoints, visiting the Arts Forest with its open-air sculptures, or enjoying the sunset with live DJ sessions. You’ll love it!
