Once inside the Capitoline Museums, you can walk through rooms full of treasures, from iconic sculptures to unique pieces that tell the story of the evolution of the Italian capital. Among the collection of works, don't miss the famous sculpture of the Capitoline She-Wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, a legendary symbol of the origin of Rome.
Another of the most famous pieces is the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, sculpted in the second century AD. Other sculptures also on exhibit are Galatius dying, busts of other emperors such as Constantine I, and even a beautiful mosaic rescued from Hadrian's Villa known as the Mosaic delle Colombe.
In addition to its impressive collection, the location of the Capitoline Museums is unparalleled, as they are located in the Piazza del Campidoglio. Did you know that this square was designed by Michelangelo himself? From there you can admire spectacular views of the Roman Forum.
Opening Hours and Ticket Pickup
On the day of your visit, you’ll need to collect your tickets for the Capitoline Museums at 16 Piazza d'Aracoeli. Tickets can be picked up anytime between 9:30 am and 3 pm. Before entering the museum, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a 25-minute introductory video about Ancient Rome.
Once you have your tickets, you can visit the Capitoline Museums during their opening hours: Monday to Sunday, from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm (final admission at 5:30 pm).
