Do you want to discover two of the most charming towns in Santander? If is, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in San Gil and head northeast. We’ll take a 40-minute drive while enjoying the scenery of the Suárez River canyon.

Our first stop will be Barichara, considered one of the most beautiful towns in Colombia. As soon as we arrive, we’ll stroll through its cobbled streets, admiring the sober elegance of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, an emblem of the region’s colonial baroque style.

We’ll also visit traditional workshops where stone carving continues to be an act of memory and art. To round off this 1.5-hour tour on a high note, we’ll stop at the Suárez River viewpoint.

We’ll return to the vehicle and, in about 20 minutes, arrive in Guane. This former indigenous settlement is now a haven of absolute serenity. We’ll explore its main square, where we’ll see the San Isidro parish church and walk along its colonial-style streets. We’ll also reach the Guane viewpoint for the best views of the town.

Next, we’ll visit the Guane Archaeological and Paleontological Museum, where we’ll see ancient fossils and pre-Columbian pieces. Our next stop will be the Guane Cemetery, which we’ll reach by crossing the Camino Real.

When hunger strikes, we’ll complete the experience with a 1-hour stop to enjoy a typical Santander lunch. The menu includes carne oreada, sobrebarriga, or grilled chicken breast, as well as potato broth or mute soup. The side dishes will be rice, yuca, potatoes, patacón, and fresh salad. All of this will be accompanied by a drink, either lemonade or seasonal fruit juice.

Finally, we’ll begin the return journey to San Gil and say our goodbyes as we drop you off at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.

This tour includes pickup from hotels in downtown San Gil. If you’re staying outside this area, you’ll need to make your own way to the meeting point at the Main Park of San Gil.
