La Carolina Day Trip
La Carolina Day Trip
After picking you up from your hotel in San Luis at 7:30 am, we'll set off across the Pancanta Valley to La Carolina. Did you know that this famous mining town is named after the Spanish King Charles III?
As soon as we arrive in this town located at the foot of the Cerro Tomolasta hill, we'll tell you all about the history of its "gold fever", the name given to the tireless effort to find gold in the area's mines in the 18th century. During this period, the Spanish transported the gold to Chile to be melted at the Santiago Mint.
To learn more about gold mining, we'll visit the La Carolina gold mine. We'll get kitted out in mining gear before heading down through the tunnels. Here we'll learn all about how gold used to be mined.
At the end of the guided tour of the mine, we'll make our way to the outskirts of La Carolina to visit the Inti Huasi cave: one of Argentina's most important prehistoric caves. At this archeological site, we'll learn all about the way of life of the hominids that inhabited the different caves.
Afterwards, we'll return to La Carolina, where you'll have an hour of free time to have lunch before we head back to your hotel in San Luis, arriving by around 2:30 pm.
