Tour Details

Day 1: Santa Marta

The Colombian Caribbean welcomes you! Upon your arrival in Santa Marta, we’ll meet you at Simón Bolívar International Airport and take you to the hotel in the historic center, where you’ll spend the first 3 nights.

In the afternoon, we’ll head into the heart of the city for a guided visit that will take us to Parque de los Novios. Here, we’ll share local legends and traditions that will help you connect with the charm of the coast. Did you know Santa Marta was a source of inspiration for Gabriel García Márquez? He considered it the most beautiful bay in the Americas and even included it in some of his novels.

At the end of the day, you’ll have free time to enjoy Santa Marta’s nightlife and have dinner on your own.

Day 2: Santa Marta – Tayrona National Park – Santa Marta

We’ll dedicate the second day to exploring one of Colombia’s most impressive natural areas. We’ll travel for 30 minutes from Santa Marta to Tayrona National Park, a biodiversity sanctuary where the jungle meets the sea.

We’ll walk between 2 and 3 hours along trails that run through dense tropical vegetation. With luck, we may spot monkeys, iguanas, and a wide variety of birds. We’ll also pass spectacular beaches such as Arrecifes before reaching the famous Cabo San Juan del Guía. Here, you’ll have free time to relax, eat, swim in crystal-clear waters, and take photos from a 360-degree viewpoint.

We’ll finish the day back in Santa Marta, where you’ll have time for dinner on your own.

Day 3: Santa Marta – Minca – Santa Marta

After breakfast, we’ll leave the coast behind and travel for about 45 minutes into the mountains. Our destination is Minca, a picturesque town in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, considered Colombia’s ecological capital. Ready to explore?

We’ll take a tour of Minca that includes a visit to a coffee and cacao farm, where you’ll learn the traditional production process of both. Afterward, you can cool off in the area’s rivers and waterfalls before enjoying a panoramic walk ideal for birdwatching. We’ll end our excursion to Minca with a delicious countryside lunch.

With renewed energy, we’ll return to Santa Marta for your third night.

Day 4: Santa Marta – Aracataca – Barranquilla

It’s time to dive fully into the universe of “Gabo.” We’ll head to Aracataca, the writer’s birthplace and the real Macondo. After nearly 2 hours of travel, we’ll arrive at our destination. We’ll walk the streets that inspired Gabriel García Márquez and visit his House Museum, a place that will transport you straight into the pages of One Hundred Years of Solitude. Before leaving, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch.

After immersing ourselves in magical realism, we’ll travel for 2.5 hours to Barranquilla, known as Colombia’s “Golden Gate.” To end the day, we’ll enjoy a colorful chiva rumbera ride along the Gran Malecón del Río. It will be a night of music and dancing along the iconic boardwalk beside the Magdalena River.

The day will end at your accommodation in Barranquilla, where you’ll spend 2 nights.

Day 5: Barranquilla

On the fifth day, we’ll set out to discover the essence of Barranquilla. We’ll take a full city tour to explore its most iconic landmarks. We’ll visit the historic El Prado neighborhood, walk through Casa del Carnaval, stop for photos at the famous Shakira Monument, and visit “La Ventana al Mundo,” a symbol of modern Barranquilla.

Did you know Gabriel García Márquez spent parts of his youth and adulthood in Barranquilla? Bar La Cueva was one of his meeting places with the famous Grupo de Barranquilla, where intellectuals gathered to share ideas.

After the tour, the rest of the day will be free for lunch and exploring on your own. We recommend visiting the Caribbean Museum or joining a food tour to try local specialties such as arepa de huevo and butifarra soledeña.

Day 6: Barranquilla – Cartagena de Indias

On the sixth day, we’ll take a 2.5-hour road trip to beautiful Cartagena de Indias. Along the way, you’ll have the option to stop for a unique experience: a relaxing mud bath in the Totumo Volcano.

Once in Cartagena, you’ll have free time for lunch and to settle into your accommodation in the historic center. Can you already feel the magic of its colonial streets? In the evening, the city invites you to celebrate again. We’ll climb aboard another chiva rumbera, a festive bus, for a lively tour accompanied by Caribbean music. We’ll explore the historic center, Getsemaní, and Bocagrande, stopping to take great photos.

Afterward, we’ll say goodbye so you can enjoy dinner on your own and rest.

Day 7: Cartagena de Indias

On day 7, we’ll explore Cartagena in depth; the “walled jewel.” We’ll visit the interior of San Felipe de Barajas Castle, the most important military fort from the colonial era. We’ll also stop at the Old Shoes Monument and Cerro de la Popa. Our walking route through the historic center will take us to the Clock Tower and the bohemian Getsemaní neighborhood, known for its street art. This city was also significant in García Márquez’s life and work, inspiring novels such as Love in the Time of Cholera.

In the afternoon, you’ll have free time for lunch and more exploring. If you prefer, you can relax at Bocagrande Beach or go shopping at Las Bóvedas.

Day 8: Cartagena de Indias

After breakfast, we’ll check out around 11 am, and you’ll have free time for last-minute shopping and strolling through Cartagena. At the indicated time, we’ll meet again and take you to Rafael Núñez International Airport for your return flight.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this immersion into the Colombian Caribbean and the world of Gabriel García Márquez!
