Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge Trip
Description
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and hop into our jeep for a trip to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Let's go!
We'll drive to the San Martín trail to start hiking to the Gotsezhy Refuge. Before we start our hike, we'll have a snack in the rural community of San Martín and then set off. On the way, we'll admire the region's lush scenery.
After an hour's drive, we'll get to the Gotsezhy village at around 10 am. When we get there, we'll start learning about the culture of the Wiwa Indigenous community, their environmentally sustainable customs and how they weave their textiles.
Next, we'll head to a sacred place for the community. At 12 noon, we'll have a meeting with the Mamo, who holds the highest authority in the village.
Feeling peckish yet? At 12:30 pm, we'll have a lunch prepared by the Wiwa, which consists of soup, a main course, juice and fruit. After trying their traditional dishes, we'll walk for 20 minutes to the El Encanto natural pool. You'll be able to take a refreshing dip in this place, which is believed to possess purifying properties.
Having spent an unforgettable day at the Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge, we'll hop back into our vehicle at 3 pm and return to Santa Marta.
2-Day Trip
If you're after even more fun, you can choose our 2-day trip to the Gotsezhy Indigenous Refuge. On the first day, you'll do the same activities as in the itinerary described above, but you'll have 2 more hours of free time at the El Encanto natural pool.
At 5 pm, we'll return to the Gotsezhy Refuge to have dinner. While we dine, we'll watch some incredible traditional dances.
Good morning! On our second day, you'll have a snack and visit the village to see an exhibition of traditional handicrafts. We'll have a typical lunch at 12 noon and then at 2 pm we'll follow the trail back to Guachaca, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Santa Marta.
We'll drop you off at your hotel at around 5 pm. See you next time!
