Day Trip Details

At the designated time, we'll meet in front of the Bristol Hotel in Skopje to begin this day trip to Lake Ohrid, a World Heritage Site that will captivate you from the very first moment. During the 2.5-hour journey, we'll enjoy the mountainous landscapes and nature that characterise south-western North Macedonia.

Once in Ohrid, we'll take a guided walking tour of the old town, a true open-air museum. We'll start by walking along the Ohrid Lake promenade, whose crystal-clear waters accompany the peaceful rhythm of the city, before delving into its historical fabric.

Along the way, we'll see iconic sites such as the Church of St. Sophia, one of the oldest in the country, and the Robevi House Museum, where you'll learn about the traditional life of local families. We'll continue on to the ancient theatre, a remnant of the Hellenistic period that still retains its original charm.

We'll also pass by the Church of Santa Bogorodica Perivleptos, famous for its impressive Byzantine frescoes, and the Icon Gallery, where some of Macedonia's most important religious pieces are on display.

The route will take us to the Upper Gate and Tsar Samoil's Fortress, where you can enjoy unparalleled panoramic views of the lake and the city's rooftops. Afterwards, we'll descend to the Church of St. Clement in Plaosnik, one of the most revered places in Ohrid.

Next, we'll head to another of Ohrid's icons: the Church of St. John Kaneo. This small 13th-century temple, located on a promontory above the lake, is probably the most recognisable image of North Macedonia. Its location and architecture make it an essential stop.

Before finishing the tour, we'll stroll through Charsija, the Old Bazaar, and admire the Chinar tree. Over 1,100 years old, it's a symbol of Ohrid's longevity and vitality.

During the tour, we'll take a 1.5-hour break so that you get yourself some lunch. You can sample the local cuisine by the lake and try the famous Ohrid bagels, a very popular speciality. If you're travelling in summer, you can take advantage of this time to take a dip.

Finally, we'll return to Skopje, and we'll say our goodbyes at the meeting point after a total of 10 hours.
