On this private tour of Terni, we'll discover the main monuments of this ancient Umbrian town with an exclusive English-speaking guide. The Roman Amphitheatre and the medieval tower of Barbarasa await you!

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Piazza Ridolfi, in the heart of the historic centre in Terni, where we'll begin this private tour in which we'll discover its monumental beauties.

We'll start our tour in this very square, where the Palazzo Spada, the current seat of the Town Hall, will immediately catch your attention. We'll admire the façade of this elegant 16th-century building while we reveal its fascinating history.

Next, we'll walk along Via Cavour until we reach the Barbarasa Tower, a medieval noble building linked to some of the most influential families of Terni. Did you know that it's still inhabited? We'll tell you some anecdotes related to this place before heading towards the Obelisk of Arnaldo Pomodoro, also known as "the lance of light". At about 30 m (98 ft) tall, this work symbolises the economic evolution of Terni.

After admiring the obelisk, we'll go to the Roman Amphitheatre. We'll admire its remains from the outside, dating back to the 1st century AD, before moving on to the Terni Cathedral, heading inside for a visit. Among its most outstanding works, we'll be able to admire the painting titled Noli me tangere, attributed to Guido Reni, and the tabernacle that houses the relics of the blood of Christ.

The next temples to visit are the church of San Salvatore and the church of Sant'Alò, a Romanesque temple from the 10th century that is surprisingly simple, and the Sanctuary of San Francesco, inside which you can admire splendid frescoes.

Finally, we'll arrive at the Piazza della Repubblica, where we'll finish this 2.5-hour tour by telling you about its institutional buildings.

Important Info

  • Access to the Roman Amphitheatre is only possible by prior reservation from Thursday to Sunday. If you wish to visit the inside of this monument as well, please indicate this when booking.
  • The church of Sant'Alò has limited opening times. If it's closed, you'll only be able to admire the outside of the church.
