On this private tour of Aquileia, you'll visit this World Heritage Site and its main monuments with a guide exclusively for you and your group. Don't miss it!

Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet in front of the Aquileia Tourist Information Point to begin our private tour to discover the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We'll then head to the majestic Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most extraordinary sites of early Christian Italy. After a brief introduction by the guide, who will present the itinerary and introduce us to the thousand-year history of Aquileia, we'll immediately immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of this site.

Once inside, we'll discover one of the most precious treasures of the Roman-Christian world, the largest floor mosaic in the Western world, dating back to the 4th century. We'll observe it closely in search of symbols, fantastic animals, and scenes of early Christian life.

Then, we'll visit the Cripta degli Scavi (Crypt of the Excavations), which houses archaeological remains of the primitive religious complex that are still visible today, and the Cripta degli Affreschi (Crypt of the Frescoes), where art and faith come together. If conditions allow, we'll also climb the bell tower to enjoy the fantastic views of the Venetian-Friulian Plain.

Leaving the Basilica, we'll walk to the remains of the Roman Forum, where columns and structures of the ancient imperial city still stand today. Here, we'll relive the public, commercial, and political life of Roman Aquileia, which was once one of the most important cities in the Empire.

Crossing the ancient Via Sacra, dotted with cypress trees and archaeological ruins, we'll arrive at the evocative Roman Necropolis, where we'll talk about funeral rites and the culture of memory in ancient times.

After spending 2 hours here, we'll conclude our private tour.
