Snowshoeing Tour in the Valle de Lago

We'll start this unforgettable winter hiking route by meeting at the indicated time at the Valle de Lago car park. In this place in the Asturian council of Somiedo, located at an altitude of 1280 metres (4199 feet), a mountain guide will explain how to walk safely through the icy landscapes we're going to visit.

After this brief talk, we'll equip ourselves with all the necessary equipment and start the walk with snowshoes. We'll walk up the valley, observing a winter landscape dotted with "teitos": the typical huts of the Asturian mountains. Do you know their origin? We'll find out!

The ascent, which takes about two hours through the snow, will take us up to 1558 metres  (5111 feet). At this altitude we'll reach the Lake of the Valley, the largest natural lake in the Principality of Asturias. We'll see the lake completely covered with a blanket of snow and ice, surrounded by impressive mountains.

We'll take a break here so that you can admire the scenery in peace and quiet and recharge your batteries with the snack you have brought with you. Afterwards, we'll go to the 'Cobrana Teito' to see the magnificent panoramic views of the lake of the valley.

After enjoying the views, in case of bad weather we'll return to the meeting point by the same route we took on the way out. If the conditions are favourable, we'll take the forest path. In this way, we'll enjoy the beauty of the snowy beech forests and discover the great biodiversity of the Somiedo council.

Finally, after a five-hour excursion, we'll return to the Valle de Lago car park.
