Guatapé Hiking Tour
Tour Details
We’ll meet in the main square of Guatapé and set off from there. Ready to discover one of the region’s most unique natural areas?
Before we begin, we’ll share some background on the geography, history, and environmental importance of the Guatapé mountains. Then we’ll start hiking along the trail known as Camino de las Tres Esquinas, a historic path that has been used for over six centuries. As we walk, you’ll notice how the scenery gradually changes, leading us into the heart of the lush cloud forest.
We’ll pass through the rural area of El Roble, where the region’s rich biodiversity is easy to spot. Tall trees covered in moss and lichen line the trail, and with a bit of luck, we may hear native birds or spot small mammals and amphibians that thrive in this cool, humid environment.
The route covers around 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) and also takes us along the Cañada Fea and Calderas trail. Here, you’ll learn why this area is often described as a natural water source for the region. The soil, rich in organic matter, absorbs and stores water, feeding numerous rivers and streams.
After about 4 hours of hiking, we’ll return to the main square of Guatapé, where we’ll say our goodbyes.
