Uyuni Salt Flat Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the appointed time, we'll depart from the former bus terminal on Avenida Universitaria to begin this excursion to one of Bolivia's most iconic landmarks: the Salar de Uyuni salt flats.
After the trip, we'll arrive at the Uyuni bus station. From there, we'll head to the place where we'll board the off-roading vehicle that will take us to the iconic Uyuni salt flats.
We'll start with a stop at the famous Uyuni train cemetery, where we'll find the remains of the first railroads that ran through Bolivia in the 19th century.
Next, we'll head to Colchani, considered the gateway to the Uyuni salt flats. Here we'll observe the so-called salt eyes. These are holes where groundwater reaches boiling point thanks to the earth's heat.
The next stop will be the Playa Blanca hotel. Did you know that it is built entirely from blocks of salt? There, we'll discover some unique facilities that also house a museum and restaurant.
At midday, we'll take you to enjoy a delicious lunch featuring seasonal regional products to recharge your batteries. Then, we'll continue on to Plaza de las Banderas, which is notable for its flagpoles of different sizes flying flags from all over the world. Don't forget to bring your flag to mark your visit!
Our last stop will be at Incahuasi Island, right in the heart of the salt flat. Here we'll see huge cacti that reach up to 6 m (20 ft) high and petrified coral formations. The perfect place to take the last photos of the trip!
Finally, we'll return to the bus station in Uyuni and begin the journey back to Potosí. Arrival is scheduled for midnight after a 19.5-hour day of adventure.
