Horse Riding in the Indigenous Communities of Chiapas
Activity Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at number 15 of calle 5 de Febrero. There, we'll hop into a vehicle to get to reach the outskirts of San Cristóbal de las Casas, going specifically to the farm where the horses are kept. Once at the stables, we'll mount up and set off on a ride to discover the indigenous communities.
As we leave the city, we'll see some mestizo neighbourhoods that have their own customs. Did you know that the Tzotzil, Tzeltal and Chol ethnic groups live there? After about an hour of riding, we'll reach San Juan Chamula.
This Mexican municipality is one of the few that still practises Mayan culture. Upon arrival, you can leave your horses and enjoy an hour of free time to explore this town, which still uses the words jhotik and jmetil to refer to the sun and moon.
If you want to discover more curiosities about this mystical enclave in the heart of Chiapas, we recommend visiting its church and seeing its eccentric customs with your own eyes. After your free time, we'll get back on the horses and return to San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Finally, after a total of 4 hours, we'll end this activity at the departure point.
