Museum of Byzantine Culture Tickets
What to Expect at the Museum of Byzantine Culture
Located in the heart of Thessaloniki, the Museum of Byzantine Culture houses one of the most comprehensive collections dedicated to the art, religion, and daily life of the Byzantine Empire. With this ticket, you can explore the museum's various rooms and admire unique objects spanning over a thousand years of history, from the origins of Christianity to the fall of Constantinople.
Once inside the museum, you'll have an audio guide in English at your disposal that will accompany you on a 2.5-hour tour revealing the secrets of the most notable pieces. For example, you can admire the mosaic mural of the Church of Acheiropoietos, the silver reliquary, and the tomb of Eustorgius.
You can also marvel at the ceramics in the Santa Sophia gallery, the marble icon of the praying Virgin, and the gold-embroidered epitaph, as well as discover the golden hyperpyron of Alexius I Komnenus, the double icon of the Virgin, and the panoramic view of Mount Sinai.
Through a carefully curated narrative, the audio guide provides historical and cultural context that will bring each piece to life. In addition, the audio guide, which you can download directly to your mobile phone, includes explanatory texts, maps, and photographs. It allows you to explore lesser-known details of the works, with anecdotes and curiosities that deepen your understanding of the artistic and spiritual richness of Byzantine civilization.
