Jebel Shams Via Ferrata
Activity Details
Do you feel like visiting the Grand Canyon of Oman? Then, we’ll meet at the Cliff Café in Al Hamra. There, we’ll have a brief safety introduction. After that, we’ll gear up with everything we need and, full of excitement, set off on the adventure.
We’ll begin a hike along the iconic Balcony Walk, a trail that runs along the edge of Wadi Ghul. The drop will open up to our right like an endless gorge, and we’ll move forward slowly and carefully with each step. Every turn along this 4 kilometer (2.5 mile) stretch will reveal a new landscape of slopes and cliffs.
Before you know it, we’ll reach Sab Bani Khamis, an abandoned village that shows how families lived more than 70 years ago. We’ll walk among stone walls and take a short break at a hidden lake, an oasis that will prepare us physically and mentally for the main challenge. Are you ready?
We’ll face the most intense moment with the Jebel Shams via ferrata, undoubtedly the most significant and challenging part of the route. We’ll climb its 200 meter (656 foot) vertical wall, following steel cables and metal rungs embedded in the rock.
We’ll feel the adrenaline and, step by step, gain height until the canyon opens up beneath our feet. We promise it’ll be one of those moments you’ll never forget!
Finally, we’ll take a short hike to the endpoint at Musaidira-al-Arf. There, we’ll say our goodbyes after a total of 5 hours of experience along the Jebel Shams via ferrata.
