Cabo de Gata Salt Flats & Wetlands 4x4 Tour
Activity Details
We'll meet at Cabo de Gata beach, in the area of the Fishermen's Association, and board a classic open-top off-roading vehicle from the 80s for a tour of the salt flats and wetlands of Cabo de Gata.
Along the way, we'll catch some of the adverts and film scenes shot in this part of Almería, including those for the Porsche 911 Carrera and Conan the Barbarian.
We'll head inland and make a stop at an abandoned farmhouse, where we'll take in a sweeping panoramic view of the salt flats and the sea beyond. We'll learn what life was like in the area 70 years ago!
We'll visit the Cabo de Gata salt flats, famous not only for their productive value but also for the wide variety of bird species that inhabit the wetlands of Cabo de Gata and the surrounding area. We'll pass through the dunes where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed and the old mining settlement of the salt flats.
The route continues past the Arrecife de las Sirenas and the lighthouse of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, before reaching the Vela Blanca viewpoint. We'll get out of the vehicle on top of this volcanic formation for as many photos as you like. Did you know this spot was named by National Geographic as one of the top 20 views in the world, and was once a key defensive point against pirates from its watchtowers?
We'll head back along the tracks, stopping at the coves of Cabo de Gata and continuing toward the church and the salt workers' village.
We'll wrap up the activity back at the starting point 2 hours later.
