Discover the traditions and way of life of the Tapajós River communities on our 1 or 2-day tour. You'll feel close to nature as you explore this beautiful part of the Amazon and meet the locals.

Tapajós River Communities Tour

At 9 am, we'll meet at the Tourist Information Centre in Alter do Chão. From there, we'll board our boat and set sail on the Tapajós River until we get to the Anuma river community.

When we get there, we'll hop aboard a tractor to head to the Active Forestry Experimental Centre. Let's find out what they do here! We'll see how they help to breed animals and discover how they use biological fertilisers and rainwater for organic farming.

Anyone peckish yet? At 1 pm, we'll have a lunch consisting of chicken or fresh fish. After lunch, we'll relax in a hammock while gazing at views of the Brazilian Amazon.

Next, we'll embark on a hike to the hydroelectric dam. When we arrive, you'll be able to take a relaxing dip.

We'll then say our goodbyes to the Anuma community and begin our return journey to Alter do Chão, where we'll arrive at 7 pm.

2-day Tour

If you'd prefer, you can opt for the 2-day tour of the Tapajós River communities. On this tour, we'll head to the Vista Alegre community after leaving Anuma behind. You'll be able to choose if you'd like to get there via a 6-mile (10-kilometre) trail or taking a boat trip through the mangroves.

Once we've reached our destinations, we'll be welcomed with open arms by the locals. They'll share their customs with us and you'll be able to have a delicious dinner and learn about the fire ritual from them.

Good morning! After having breakfast, we'll go on a hike to explore our beautiful surroundings. We'll then have a typical dish for lunch and chat with the members of the riverside community. Before we head back to Alter do Chão, we'll admire an enchanting sunset on Muretá Beach.

What's the boat like?

You'll set sail aboard a boat with four different spaces. In addition, you'll have equipment for kayaking and paddle surfing, a barbecue and music on board.

Accommodation

If you opt for the 2-day boat tour, this option includes 1 night's accommodation on the boat in double cabins with a private bathroom. If you'd prefer, you can also choose to spend the night in a cabin in the Vista Alegre community. The latter option isn't included in the tour price.
