Amsterdam's Most Elegant Building

Located in the central Dam Square, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam is one of the city's most prominent monuments. It was built as a town hall in the 17th century, during the Dutch Golden Age. In the early 19th century, it became the royal residence with the accession of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte to the throne. Today, it hosts various receptions and other official events for the King of the Netherlands.

When you enter the Royal Palace, you'll tour the different rooms and chambers of this iconic building in the Dutch capital. Thanks to the audio guide included in your ticket, you'll uncover many interesting facts about the most notable rooms.

One of the most important rooms is the Burgerzaal, or the Citizens' Hall, which stands out for its impressive chandeliers. Another of the most spectacular rooms is the Throne Room, where you can see luxurious decor in which the curtains, chandeliers, carpet, and tapestries form a beautiful ensemble.

In addition to this chamber, where the official receptions of the Dutch monarchs take place, don't miss the Scabini Room. This is where the so-called scabini, or administrators of justice, used to meet. For this reason, the room is decorated with statues of Justice, Time, and War.

Another of the most notable rooms is the Courtroom, where sentences were handed down. The most striking feature of this space is that it is lined with marble.

The total duration of the audio guided tour is estimated at 2 hours, although you can stay in each room for as long as you like.
