Embark on a full-day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat, Spain’s holy mountain, followed by a guided tour of the Jean Leon Wine Cellars and lastly, discover Sitges, a charming seaside resort.
Montserrat, Sitges & Jean Leon Winery Day Trip
We will depart from Barcelona Nord station at around 9:00 am and head south towards the heart of the Penedès region, the main wine and cava producing area in Catalonia.
Our first stop will be Montserrat, one of the most visited natural sites in Spain. Long before arriving at its base, we will admire its impressive jagged saw profile that has been carved over centuries by the effect of wind and rain on the natural sandy cement surface. We will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, sanctuary of the Virgin Moreneta, patron saint of Catalonia.
After visiting this basilica, which has been one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Spain for centuries, you will have free time to explore the area. You can take advantage of the time to visit the audiovisual room of the monastery and taste the typical liqueurs created by the monks. Both activities are included in the price of the excursion.
Next, we'll stop at the Jean Leon Winery, a perfect place to discover the world of wine. We'll get to know the Penedès area and the facilities of the winery on a tour of the estate's vineyards. We'll discover the winemaking process and we will see the barrels where the best wines of the estate are aged. Before leaving the cellars, we will enjoy a commented tasting of 2 wines.
Our route will continue with a visit to Sitges, one of the most beautiful villages on the coast of Barcelona. Its microclimate, its picturesque old town with whitewashed houses and its beautiful beaches make it one of the favourite destinations to enjoy the Mediterranean coast. After discovering the route of the Indians from Sitges who crossed the Atlantic in search of a better future in America, you'll have free time to explore the town, discover its beaches or go shopping in the old town.
To enter the Basilica of Montserrat, you must wear suitable clothes and shoes. You may not enter wearing tank tops, shorts or sandals.
The climate in Montserrat is mountainous and depending on the season you should wear warm clothes or rain gear.
