Our guided tour of colonial Belém will begin at the designated time at the Forte do Presépio. Here, at the point where the city is believed to have been born in 1616, we'll start talking about its construction and importance for the Portuguese at that time. Did you know that it was the first colonial stronghold in the Amazon?
A few steps away is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Belém. This church, which began as a humble construction of mud and straw, later became one of the most amazing buildings in the city, thanks to the Italian architect Antonio Landi. Its interior houses the largest organ in Latin America!
We'll continue to the Palace Antônio Lemus, which houses the Belém Art Museum. There, we'll talk about the rise of the so-called Amazonian Belle Époque while admiring its extravagant rooms. We'll walk through its interior, where we'll discover the artistic and political evolution of the Pará region.
Finally, we'll visit the Lauro Sodré Palace, a jewel of neoclassical architecture built in 1771 in the Cidade Velha neighborhood.
