History

The Albert Memorial Clock was built in memory of Prince Albert, the beloved husband of Queen Victoria of England. Designed by architect William J Barre, the clock is built in the Gothic style, not dissimilar to that of the Big Ben in London.

The Albert Memorial Clock was built on marshy land near the River Farset. As a result, the 30-metre (100 ft) structure noticeably leans over 1 metre (4 ft) off perpendicular and is sometimes referred to by locals as 'Belfast's leaning tower'.
