East Side Gallery: The Wall Museum Tickets
The Wall Museum, East Side Gallery's Museum
The German capital boasts several museums and memorials dedicated to the Berlin Wall. Some remains of this former barrier, which divided the city between 1961 and 1989, are still visible. One of its most famous sections is the East Side Gallery. This part of the wall is decorated with many murals of street art that you can see for free 24/7, since it's on the street.
Next to the East Side Gallery, you'll find The Wall Museum, one of the German capital's most important museums dedicated to the Berlin Wall. Through its different rooms, you'll discover the history of one of the main symbols of the Cold War.
The museum is in the former warehouse building Mühlenspeicher, located on the "death strip." On this visit, you'll learn about the history of the Berlin Wall, from its construction in 1961 until its fall in 1989, in a multimedia exhibition across 13 rooms.
The exhibition houses different original objects from the GDR, the German Democratic Republic. This socialist state, also called East Germany, ceased to exist in 1990, when the FRG, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the country reunified. Until this moment, the easternmost part of the country suffered many struggles you'll learn about during your visit.
The museum's rooms will showcase what life was like in divided Berlin and the GDR. You'll also discover stories from those who tried to escape the western part of the city from the eastern part.
Plus, from the museum, you can admire the Spree River and the famous Oberbaum Bridge, which was a border control point during the Cold War.
