Nocaima & La Vega Day Trip + El Bambú Panela Farm Tour
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Bogota and from there we'll start this day trip to Nocaima and La Vega, two natural jewels of the Colombian department of Cundinamarca.
After about a 1.5-hour drive, we'll arrive in Nocaima. There we'll visit the El Bambú farm, where we'll be welcomed by a local family of farmers. This area of Colombia has a long history and tradition of producing panela, as its climate and soil type are the ideal environment for cultivating this crop.
Our hosts will guide us on a tour of their land while explaining the different stages of sugar cane cultivation, from planting to harvesting. We'll also learn how the caña al trapiche is made, which involves grinding the sugar cane in a mill and extracting its juice.
During the experience, we'll have breakfast that includes an arepa with scrambled eggs and guarapo, which is what the drink obtained from sugar cane is called in Colombia. To round out our visit, we'll explore the house-museum, where some old objects related to the work of cultivation are exhibited.
At noon, we'll leave for the center of Nocaima, and there we'll leave you about 1 hour of free time for lunch.
Later, we'll meet up again to head for La Vega, where we'll take a guided tour of its picturesque streets. As we stroll through this small town surrounded by the mountains of the Colombian Cordillera Central, we'll be treated to breathtaking views.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point, where we'll about 9 hours of hiking.
