Parliament of Budapest Tickets + Audio Guide
Tickets to the Parliament of Budapest
The Parliament of Budapest, officially known as the Hungarian Parliament Building, is one of the most iconic and emblematic buildings in Hungary—not just because of its grand architecture but also because of its profound historical and political significance. It stands majestically on the shores of the Danube River, in Kossuth Square.
The Parliament of Budapest was built between 1885 and 1902. It was designed by the Hungarian architect Imre Steindl, who was inspired by the Neo-Gothic style of the Palace of Westminster in London, although it has Renaissance and Baroque elements. It's the third-largest parliament in the world and the tallest in Budapest, along with St. Stephen's Basilica.
With this ticket, you'll have the opportunity to discover the inside of this impressive building thanks to an audio guide in English that will make the most of your visit. Once you enter, you'll start the tour by climbing up the main stairs, which have long red rugs, elegant lamps, and luxurious decoration bathed in gold.
You'll continue walking through the Assembly Hall, where the most important legislative sessions take place, and the Dome Room, where you can admire the Holy Crown of Hungary. As you explore the building, the audio guide will provide detailed information about every place you see. Inside the Parliament of Budapest, you'll have the chance to see the Old Upper House and the Congress of Deputies.
45 minutes after visiting the interior of the parliament, if you want, you can continue exploring the surroundings with the audio guide. You'll learn about the rich history of the Kossuth Square and see noteworthy spots, like the statue of Ferenc Rákóczi, the Memorial for Victims of the German Occupation, and the Memorial of National Cohesion. You'll listen to fascinating details about these sites, including the devastating events of Bloody Thursday and the significance of these memorials.
Outside the Parliament of Budapest, you can also see the Lapidarium, which is home to a collection of stone carvings and sculptures, and admire the statues in the square, each with a story to tell.
This tour of the parliament's surroundings with an audio guide usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes.
