Colombo Food Tour Itinerary
Meet your guide in front of the statue of Henry Steel Olcott, near the Fort Railway Station, in the heart of Colombo. From here, you'll begin your guided walking tour through Sri Lanka's largest city, discovering the diverse flavours found in the local markets and restaurants. You'll also get to taste some of the island's most delicious typical dishes.
First up: exploring a traditional market. Take in the sights, sounds and smells as you stop to chat with different vendors and try their products like "egg hoppers", a type of crepe with an egg fried in it; achcharu, or spicy pickles, and the famous murukku, a crunchy savoury snack.
Burn off all these delicious treats as you continue on to the next part of your tour, strolling to some of Colombo's most iconic places of interest. Admire the Red Masjid, a spectacular red-and-white mosque, the Khan Clock Tower and the Old Colombo Dutch Hospital, considered to be the oldest building in the Fort district.
Wander through Galle Face Green, a relaxing urban park that stretches along the coast and a favourite place of the locals to come and escape from the hustle and bustle of the nearby financial district. Finally you'll visit a typical restaurant, where you'll enjoy a number of traditional Sri Lankan dishes. Delicious!
